Boston, USA |

The YSI Economic History Working Group invites scholars to submit their research on alternative perspectives and different approaches to the study of economic history. The workshop will take place on 29 July, 2018, in Boston, Massachusetts, preceding the World Economic History Congress (29 July  - 3 August).

New Approaches to Economic History

Organized by the YSI Economic History Working Group

The aim of this workshop is to actively share and embrace different perspectives and schools of economic thought, in order to provide fertile ground for the future study of economic history using diverse perspectives, frameworks, and methodologies. To this end, the YSI Economic History Working Group encourages the submission of papers that span various research frameworks and methodologies. Papers inspired by institutional, feminist, and/or Marxian approaches, and/or the “History of Capitalism” school are especially welcome, as are papers from other alternative frameworks. We want to engage a range of scholars from different backgrounds in a discussion of how economic history can be advanced through the lenses of different frameworks, both qualitative and quantitative. In this spirit we also welcome papers on the historiography of economic history, as well as interdisciplinary research, connecting with related fields such as political, social, legal, and cultural history.

We encourage participants to seek funding from their home institutions, but some travel/accommodation funding will be available from YSI-INET as well.

Please see the following website for more information about the World Economic History Conference in general: http://wehc2018.org

To apply, please email a brief (300 word) abstract describing the research you would like to present, along with the title of your proposed presentation and your institutional affiliation, to: [email protected]

The submission deadline is 15 May.
