Reynolds Farley is a Research Scientist at the Population Studies Center and the Otis Dudley Duncan Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan. His research focuses upon current population trends in the United States with an emphasis upon racial differences. He participated in the 1980, 1990 and 2000 census research series sponsored by the Russell Sage Foundation and directed the University of Michigan’s Detroit Area Study three times. He has written extensively about racial and economic trends in the Detroit area and maintains a website, www.Detroit1701.org describing the history and future of that dynamic metropolis. He teaches short courses at the Gerald Ford School of Public Policy concerning history and future of Detroit. He earned his doctoral degree at the University of Chicago and taught at Duke University before coming to the University of Michigan in 1967. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and served as president of his professional organization; the Population Association of America.
