Thomas Masterson is a research scholar at the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College and adjunct professor of economics at Bard College. He works in the Distribution of Income and Wealth program at Levy Institute, where he has worked primarily on the Levy Institute Measure of Economic Well-Being. He is currently working on developing the Levy Institute Measure of Time and Income Poverty for Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. Dr. Masterson received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is the co-editor of Solidarity Economy I: Building Alternatives for People and Planet—Papers and Reports from the 2009 U.S. Forum on the Solidarity Economy, which was published in 2010, and author of Rural Poverty in Paraguay: Gender, Land Markets and Productivity, which was published in 2008. His recent publications have appeared in Labour/Le Travail, the Journal of Economic and Social Measurement, and World Development. He is a staff economist with the Center for Popular Economics and host of a radio show on WGXC 90.7FM in Hudson, New York, entitled “Your Friendly Neighborhood Economist.”
