Last week, INET gathered with important members of the economics community to celebrate the publication of new books by Joseph Stiglitz, a member of INET’s Advisory Board, and his wife, Anya Schiffrin.
Attendees at the book party were treated to an assortment of wine, sushi, and intriguing conversation on the rooftop of Schiffrin’s parents’ Upper West Side apartment. Schiffrin, who edited the newly released From Cairo To Wall Street: Voices from the Global Spring, spoke first and discussed the critical social and economic movements happening around the world. Stiglitz, whose latest book is The Price of Inequality: How Today’s Divided Society Endangers our Future, followed with remarks on the current state of the economy.
Those present included Nobel laureate Ned Phelps, former United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Jose Antonio Ocampo, Citigroup Chief Economist Willem Buiter, Reuters blogger Felix Salmon, and economics author and Challenge magazine editor Jeff Madrick. In attendance from INET were Executive Director Rob Johnson, Senior Advisor Perry Mehrling, Economic Advisor Dan Nielson, and Senior Editor and Director of Communications Eric Weiner.
