Gregory Wilpert

Gregory Wilpert is a communications and development consultant at INET. From 2020 to 2023, he was deputy editor at INET.

He is a German-American sociologist and journalist who earned a Ph.D. in sociology from Brandeis University in 1994. From 1997 to 2000 he was business manager of Commonweal Magazine, and then lived and worked in Venezuela from 2000 and 2008, where he co-founded the website Venezuelanalysis.com and published numerous articles on the society, politics, and economics of Venezuela.

In 2007 he published the book, Changing Venezuela by Taking Power: The History and Policies of the Chavez Government (Verso Books). From 2008 to 2014 he taught courses on Latin American politics, Global Political Economy, and Human Rights in the political science department of Brooklyn College in New York City. From 2014 to 2015 he directed the news website teleSUR English in Quito, Ecuador, and from 2016 to March 2020 he worked for The Real News Network as host, researcher, producer, and managing editor.
